Vocal & General Music

Elementary Music
Music classes for students in grades TK-5 meet once each week. Each grade learns elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, musical form, music theory, and music history. Emphasis is placed on ethnic, classical, and cultural music. Students are given many opportunities to perform in groups. They incorporate dancing, singing, and playing of Orff instruments.

Our professional music specialist teaches grades 1-5 music classes. An assistant staff person teaches kindergarten music. In TK, music is taught by the homeroom teacher.

Third grade students have the opportunity to play the recorder. This 10-week symposium culminates with a Recorder Recital. Grades 1-2 and 4-5 perform a unique musical during one of the trimesters. This performance includes members from the elementary drama and dance teams as well as ensembles, singers and soloists, selected from those who audition.

Middle School Music
In the middle school, vocal music is offered as an elective course. Students may choose to participate in the middle school Honor Choir or the Spring Musical Theater Production.

Honor Choir
The middle school Honor Choir represents Milpitas Christian School at various concerts, events, and festivals. This auditioned group requires a year-long commitment.

The Honor Choir challenges itself by singing songs in a variety of styles and from various periods in music history. The choir also sings songs in several languages, such as German, Italian, Latin, and French.

Music Theater Production
Every spring, the Milpitas Christian Middle School rehearses and performs a Broadway-style musical. This elective course requires a twelve week commitment.

The musical theater performance includes the middle school drama and dance teams as well as ensembles, singers, and soloists selected from those who audition.
