Transitional Kindergarten is a one year program designed specifically for young kindergarteners.
These students are developmentally young compared to their peers or have birthdays in the fall of the year. Like other educators in most states in the United States, we believe that students entering an academic kindergarten need to be a full five years of age, both chronologically and developmentally. So we provide this alternative program to support development and to ready children for a reading and writing kindergarten. Encouraging good social development is an important part of this program as well as providing a foundation for phonics and reading readiness.
2013/2014 Birthday Cut-off: Students should be turning five by December 31, 2013 to qualify for this program. A few students with January birthdays, or later, may be admitted if they are ready for the structure of this program, based on their preschool teacher's recommendation.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:25 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Maximum class size: 20 students
