Kindergarten Program
With the current state emphasis in kindergarten on academic achievement, MCS has a full day kindergarten program. Current research shows that early education is the foundation of lifelong academic success. Nationwide, more than 60% of schools operate kindergarten on a full day schedule. The states that do not have full day kindergarten do so primarily for financial reasons and their student's lag behind the students in the states with full day kindergarten. A longer day for MCS students means that teachers have more time to teach the academic subjects and still have time for art, music, and the special events of kindergarten.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:25 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Qualifications for admission: Students must be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2013 and have adequate scores on the Kindergarten Diagnostic Instrument, a standardized kindergarten readiness assessment. Children with September birthdays enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten are carefully screened to determine if they are ready for Kindergarten. Based on testing results and administrative discretion, an exception may be made to the birthday cut-off.
